How to Get Involved
We can be the generation that eradicates poverty, will you be a part of it?
GPI is always looking for energetic people at MIT who are passionate about fighting global poverty to get involved.
To get added to our mailing list to hear about events, or if you just want more information, e-mail gpi-board@mit.edu.
GPI is made up of three teams that all serve different aspects of the fight against global poverty. If you'd like to get involved on a specific activity, please don't hesitate to email the relevant team. If you have a new idea or if you aren't sure how you'd like to be involved, email gpi-board@mit.edu and we'd be happy to talk with you. The teams are:
Education Team
gpi-education@mit.edu- Works to inform MIT community of issues relating to poverty and what people are doing to fight it by bringing in speakers and presenters.
- A big focus of the Education Team is Poverty Action Week, tentatively scheduled for October 13-17th. We're already planning, and this is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get involved.
Outreach Team
gpi-awesome@mit.edu- Connects students, faculty, and organizations in order to share the resources and knowledge that each group specializes in. Reaches out to non-profit organizations and other colleges across the globe.
- This summer, the Outreach Team is gearing up for Orientation events and fall activities for all members. If you'd like to have a say, email us - we'd love to hear from you.
- We're also collaborating with MIT Career Fair to bring more development-focused organizations and social entrepreneurs to the Fall Career Fair. If you have any contacts or there's a particular organization you'd like to see at the Career Fair, let us know. And if you'd like to get to know some non-profits up-close, help us contact them this summer and/or volunteer at the Career Fair once fall rolls around!
Action Team
gpi-takeaction@mit.edu- GPI's Action Team are the officers within GPI working toward giving MIT students tangible opportunities to work on and create international development projects while still at MIT. The projects we work on are innovative, sustainable projects that will really help a community fulfill one or more of their needs, while simultaneously providing a venue through which students can learn international development skills and gain valuable experience abroad.
- We have 4 (and counting) exciting projects that members can get involved in this year: Cambodia Project, Gawad Kalinga collaboration, Global Medical Brigades, and U2U Project. For more information about these projects, visit their page.
- If you know of other projects or community partners, email us - we are always looking for more projects for students to get involved in.
